Book Review: Kubernetes – An Enterprise Guide, Third Edition

Authors: Marc Boorshtein, Scott Surovic

As I’m wrapping up my own book, The Kubernetes Bible, Second Edition, I held off on diving into Kubernetes – An Enterprise Guide, Third Edition until I’d finished my chapters—partly to keep my ideas fresh and un-influenced! But after enjoying the second edition last year, I was confident this updated guide would live up to high standards. And yep, it sure does!

This edition delivers a thorough, practical learning experience, ideal for anyone navigating Kubernetes, especially in an enterprise setting. The authors start with container basics, moving steadily into core Kubernetes concepts with hands-on examples—a perfect approach for both beginners and experienced users.

Some standout chapters include those on authentication, RBAC security, and networking. The coverage of enterprise-grade security, using tools like Open Policy Agent (OPA), Gatekeeper, and KubeArmor, is excellent. And for those looking at enterprise requirements, it’s packed with guidance on backup (Velero), monitoring (Prometheus), and service meshes (Istio).

This book is a solid recommendation for Kubernetes admins, developers, and even beginners looking for a comprehensive guide to Kubernetes in the enterprise. Hats off to Marc Boorshtein and Scott Surovic for an excellent update, and thanks to Maran Fernandes and Packt for arranging my copy!
